R.J. Jenkins

Born in Long Island; raised in Sarasota; moved to New York City for college; moved to England—then to Boston—for graduate school; moved back to New York City to begin my career; moved to Ocala in 2016 to build a life with my partner (hands down the best decision I’ve ever made).

By day, I’m the Director of Education for Columbia University’s Center for Veteran Transition and Integration, where I work with colleges, universities, employers, and veteran service organizations across the country to build stronger outcomes for veterans of the United States Armed Forces and their families. It’s the coolest, most rewarding job I’ve ever had.

After hours, I moonlight as a board member for the Marion County Literacy Council and the Reilly Arts Center / Ocala Symphony Orchestra—two organizations that, in different, dynamic, and powerful ways, help make our community smarter, more artful, and worth bragging about.

At home, I live with a wonderful man, four rescue pets (three dogs, one cat), and a flock of backyard chickens. Recreationally, you can most often find me on a wrestling mat, in the garden, or spending time with friends at downtown bars and restaurants.
