TEN THINGS

10 Resolutions You’ll Actually Enjoy Doing This Year. You can do it!

Make Something.
Make some cookies to share or bake some bread. Try a new recipe for a weekend dinner. Take a pottery class, repot a plant, or try a new craft. Take a break from all things digital and engage our hands and mind in a productive activity, which can reduce stress boost your mood and provide a sense of accomplishment.

Take More Videos.
Sure, you take a lot of pics, but don’t forget to take some videos that capture some fun times and slice of life moments with your friends and family – especially when your kids are small. You forget how their voices change.

Volunteer.
The benefits of volunteering are many! Not only will it help you mentally and physically, it also helps your community. Schools, churches and animal shelters always need volunteers or check with your favorite charity.

Silver Springs State Park

Be A Tourist In Your Own Town.
See all the things that people come here to see. Enjoy a glass bottom boat ride at Silver Springs State Park, or a morning at the Appleton Museum. Take in a horse show at the World Equestrian Center or grab a friend and head downtown for the First Friday Art Walk.

Become A Regular
at a local restaurant, coffee shop, food truck or the library. Resolve to be a regular this year, supporting the local economy and making new friends. My son and I have breakfast each week at a local diner and always order the same thing. We love hearing them say – “You guys having the usual?”

Gather More With Friends This Year.
Make a date with a different couple each month or grab lunch with a different pal or colleague. The more you hang out, the more you get to know each other. That’s what building community is all about.

Use Car Time Purposefully.
Instead of letting your kids stare at their phones in silence on the ride to and from school, get a book of engaging questions to stimulate conversation or do a short devotion together from the Bible App and discuss. We parents are always on the hunt for some good engagement.

Tell More Stories.
A couple I know had a designated story chair in their home. Whenever a guest sat down in that chair, it was story time. Do something similar at your place and get the stories going.

Do Something With Your Photos.
What good are they doing all stored up on your phone? You would enjoy them more if you got to see them more. Make a photo book. Frame a gallery of prints. How about a canvas print, a mouse pad for your office or canvas bag for the farmer’s market. Check out Snapfish or Shutterfly for more inspiration

Write One Letter a Month.
Nobody writes letters anymore, which makes receiving one all the more special for your chosen recipient. Buy some new stationery and write your Grandpa, your Aunt, or your former teacher or neighbor. Maybe you’ll get one back.
